About the Martlet Inn
Welcome,
People thought we were bonkers to take on The Martlet in the midst of the pandemic. Already running The Bear in Wiveliscombe and The Hungry Bear food truck – why add to the crazy, especially after such a wild year?
We knew the community needed it, and we’d always had a soft spot for this little bolthole. Also, having owned and managed pubs for twenty years, we knew just how to bring this beauty back to life. It needed a refresh, a great chef, local produce, and warm, friendly staff – job done. We’re ready to welcome you.

Our Food
A truly ‘good’ meal out means one that has been cooked with love and that has come from the heart – not food you could have had anywhere or easily whipped up yourself at home.
Your experience should be like being invited into your friend’s beautiful old house and served a meal that someone has made with you in mind.
Cask Ales
In addition to many fine, local cask ales, we brew our own beers at The Black Bear Brewery in Wiveliscombe.
Black Bear Brewery produces seasonal ales alongside its two core beers, Black Bear Bitter, and Goldihops.
Black Bear Bitter is an easy drinking, full-flavoured floral tipple which whilst malty, contains hints of elderflower.
Goldihops concentrates on its hop variety, golden hops, and is a traditionally British recipe. It’s a straw coloured, clear, refreshing bitter.
Stunning countryside
The Martlet is situated in beautiful countryside. Not only are we located directly on National Cycle Route 3, but there are also stunning sites to visit on our doorstep.
The Langford Heathfield Wildlife Trust is a short walk down the road from the Martlet.
